There are three main modules in SolidWorks modeling. These modules are seen on the “New Solidworks Document” dialog box when you click on the “New Part” command.
Part: It is used for part modeling. You can create a solid body, surface model, or sheet metal.
Assembly: It is used for Assembly modeling by combining parts and/or sub-assemblies.
Drawing: You can create 2D engineering drawings of created parts or assemblies. Also, you can draw 2D curves.
Note: You can not change the module after the Solidworks file is created. All models file extensions are different.
Part File: .SLDPRT
Assembly File: .SLDASM
Drawing File: .SLDDRW
