Dimensioning in Solidworks Sketch

You can create dimensions to change or fix the length, size, distance of entities in the sketch.

The dimensions can be created on;

  1. A single entity in the sketch (to specify a length, radius, diameter, etc… )
  2. Between entities in the sketch (to specify distance, angle, etc…)
  3. Between inner and outer sketch entities. (to specify distance, angle, etc…)

The Dimensioning Methods in Solidworks Sketch

  1. Smart Dimension
  2. Horizontal Dimension
  3. Vertical Dimension
  4. Baseline Dimension
  5. Chain Dimension
  6. Ordinate Dimension
  7. Horizontal Ordinate Dimension
  8. Vertical Ordinate Dimension
  9. Path Length Dimension

To choose and start the dimensioning method:

  1. Click on the drop-down arrow near the “Smart Dimension” icon and choose the method from the opening dimension command list.
  2. Choose the dimensioning method on the path of Tools => Dimensions
