The sketch is the 2D working area that used to draw curves.
These curves in the sketch are mostly used for:
- creating closed contour area to make 3d objects by extruding, revolving, etc…
- paths for swept features
- reference curves, points, distances
- hole reference points
Methods to create a Sketch in the SolidWorks:
- Click on the “Sketch” tab in the Command Manager. Click on the “Sketch” icon as shown in the figure.
- Click on a plane or face. The pop-up command will open near the cursor. Click on the sketch command in these commands.
- Insert => Sketch => Select a plane or planer face
Steps in the sketching
- Start the sketch
- Create curves
- Edit curves by using dimensions, constraints
- Exit sketch
