Sketch

The sketch is the 2D working area that used to draw curves.

These curves in the sketch are mostly used for:

  1. creating closed contour area to make 3d objects by extruding, revolving, etc…
  2. paths for swept features
  3. reference curves, points, distances
  4. hole reference points

Methods to create a  Sketch in the SolidWorks:

  1. Click on the “Sketch” tab in the Command Manager. Click on the “Sketch” icon as shown in the figure.
  2. Click on a plane or face. The pop-up command will open near the cursor. Click on the sketch command in these commands.
  3. Insert => Sketch => Select a plane or planer face

Steps in the sketching

  1. Start the sketch
  2. Create curves
  3. Edit curves by using dimensions, constraints
  4. Exit sketch
