In NX modeling, You can hollow out a solid body inside a model by specifying a wall thickness on the outer surface of the solid body. The “Shell” command is used for this operation in NX modeling.
To create a shell on the solid body:
- Start the “Shell” command on the Home Ribbon Bar. The command location is shown in the figure.
Home Ribbon Bar => Base Group => Shell - Select a face on the solid body. This face will be removed from the body unless you select the shell method as “Closed”. The difference between the “Open” and “Closed” shell methods is shown in the figure.
- Set the wall thickness on the outer surface of the solid body.
- Type the thickness value in the dialog box.
- Drag the arrowhead in the graphics window.
- The preview will appear on the graphics screen.
- To apply changes and exit the command Press the middle mouse button or click on the “Ok” button at the bottom of the dialog box.
Note: You can create a wall inside or outside of the model.
To change wall direction:
- Click on the Reverse Direction icon on the dialog box.
- Click twice on the Thickness Arrowhead on the model in the graphics window.
- Drag the arrowhead to the outside or inside of the model in the graphics window.
