Project Curve to Surface in Siemens NX

You can project curves onto the faces of solid bodies, surfaces, or planes in the Siemens NX Modeling. You can project curves along a vector or along a face normal.

To project curves onto a surface:

  1. Start the “Project Curve” command:
    1. Curve Ribbon Bar => Derived Group => Project Curve
    2. Menu => Insert => Derived Curve => Project
  2. The command dialog box will open.
  3. The “Select Curve or Point” bar in the “Curves or Points to Project” tab is highlighted automatically at the start.
  4. Select curves to project.
  5. Click the middle mouse button once time to activate the “Select Object” bar in the “Objects to Project To” tab.
  6. Select an object (Surface, 3D model, plane) to project the curves on it.
  7. Click the middle mouse button to activate “Specify Direction” in the “Projection Direction” tab.
  8. Projection Direction Methods:
    1. Along Vector: Creates a projection along a selected vector.
    2. Along Face Normal: Creates a projection along a selected object at step 5 which the projection will be created on it.
  9. Set the “Projection Direction Method” to “Along Vector”.
  10. The direction handles will appear in the graphics window.
  11. Select the projection direction.
  12. The preview of the projected curve will be seen in the graphics window.
  13. Click on the “OK” button in the command dialog box to create a projected curve and close the command dialog box.
