Datum Plane

Datum Plane command creates datums by using different methods.

• Home Ribbon Bar => (Datum Plane drop-down)=> Datum Plane
• Menu => Insert => Datum/Point => Datum Plane

You can select different types of methods to create planes from the first tab of the command dialog box. Also, the creating method of the datum plane specifies according to your object selection.

To create a “Datum Plane”:

1. Start “Datum Plane command
2. Select objects to define a plane.
3. If you want to define the distance between object and plane, type distance in the “Distance” in the “Offset” tab in the command dialog box. Also, you can drag the arrowhead to define distance.
4. If you want to broke the link between objects and a plane, deselect the “Associative” in the settings tab in the dialog box.
5. Click MMB to finish command.

Problem: I can not select the objects to define “Datum Plane”.

Solutions:

• Look at the selected method from the opening list in the first tab.
  For example, You can not select surfaces if “Two Lines” selected from the list in the first tab.
• Look “Type Filter” selection in the top bar. Set type filter as “No Selection Filter”.
• Look “Selection Scope” in the top bar. Set it as an “Entire Assembly”.
• Look “Enable Snap Point” is on or off. You can not select any points in the graphics window if “Enable Snap Point” is off. Also, look at the selections of the “Snap Point” in the top border. The object that you try to select might be deselected.

Problem 2: The work part changes in the assembly when I select an object in another part.

Solution: Deactivate the “Allow Automatic Work Part Change”
