Rapid Dimension

“Rapid Dimension” command changes distances, length, diameter, radius, angle of the curves. Also, you can select different dimension methods by opening dialogue under Rapid Dimensions. You can use linear, radial, angular dimension methods from the rapid dimension dialogue box. Only the Perimeter dimension is different and you can only make perimeter dimensioning by activating the “Perimeter Dimension” command. (I never used this command. You can’t see dimensions even if you define “Perimeter Dimension” on a curve. Also if you select more than one curve on connected curves, it makes total length constant but it arranges the length of each curve randomly)

There are two ways to start the “Rapid Dimension” command.

  1. Click the “Rapid Dimension” command on Home Ribbon Bar.
  2. Press the “D” key on the keyboard. (Shortcut: D)

At the start of the command, Select First object becomes active. You can make dimensions by selecting one or two objects. If one object is enough for dimensioning, both two references will be selected, and “Specify Location” will be active. If you want to go on dimensioning, you can select the second object even if “Select Second Object” in “References” is not active.  After selected curves for dimensioning and “Specify Location” are activated click on the screen where you want to place the dimension.

Dimension type changes automatically due to your selections on the drawing if the inferred method selected in the “Measurement” tab. If you want to define different dimension type you can change the method from opening a dialogue box in the “Measurement” tab.

There are two types of dimensions driven dimension and reference dimension. You can change the dimension type by clicking on the reference box in the Driving tab.

  • Driven Dimension: It defines the dimension of the curves. Driven Dimension changes the curve. To change curve; double click on a curve then type new value on the opening box. Its color is dark blue.
  • Reference Dimension: It shows the dimension of the curve. It does not have any effect on the dimension. It only shows curve length or diameter. Its color is light grey.

If you define more than one dimension on the same place on the curve, the curve will be over-dimensioned. If the curve over-dimensioned, the dimension changes to red, the curve changes to light grey and locks itself due to dimension. You can’t make any changes on the curve by using dimensions. You should erase or make reference over dimensions.
